My mind shifts as the seasons change. A cycle of emotions that come and go through each project I create. Each day, I hike through the woods of my backyard while I gather my ideas and materials for what I might create. The fallen leaves that crunch below my feet remind me of jumping in piles of them when I was just three. And when the snow comes each year, I hibernate my fears into songs that I write while staying up and recording them all night. From knitting sweaters to stuffed toys, winter is a time to explore my inner child, who I once left behind. In the spring, I am inspired by each flower that blooms. I photograph their colors and draw the woodland creators that come out from their winter gloom. As the days warm up, my projects will shift once more, into garments I sew with the materials I grow from my garden at home.

I made this soap by only using items found in my kitchen. From essential oils to shea butter I was able to build my own lavender turmeric soap and carve a mold of a bee.

As a multimedia artist, nature is the major theme that connects all of my work. I am heavily inspired by each season, and will build my work around the emotions that cycle through me. From writing poetry and songs, much of my work has words that revolve around healing. A current project I am working on is writing and illustrating an adult children's book. A guiding research question I have asked classmates, peers, family, and strangers is “what do you wish your childhood fairy tales taught you?” Based on this feedback, I am finding overlapping themes. My goal for the book is to have adults be able to heal and connect to their inner child, while also having a language and visuals that speak to children.

I am an artist who refuses to only have one niche  because I step into new mediums with each season. A design principle by Bruce Mau that I hold myself to for each project is, “think like you are lost in the forest.” As a creator, instead of using nature as a backdrop, I use nature for  my studio and trust my intuition as a key tool. By naturally sourcing materials, I am able to eliminate my carbon footprint. Therefore, many of my project’s decay as the seasons change. A shelter I build from branches is not meant to last forever. I find there to be beauty in impermanence as I myself am never the same artist I was yesterday.
